HE Governor Election

Vacancy – University Student Governor

Here at the University, we have a Board of Governors who play a key part in future direction of the University.

An important part of the Board includes a Student Governor to bring a student viewpoint and perspective to the Board’s work and this position is open for the 2024/25 year.

The appointment is for one year.

Who can be a Student Governor?

You need to be a University student who will be a enrolled student in the year 2024/25.

What does it involve?

Attending the Board which meets 5 times over the year – this looks at all areas of Hartpury.

Attending the Quality Enhancement and Standards Committee which meets once a term – this looks at the student academic experience specifically.

Papers are provided for the meetings 7 days ahead so you can read them and join in the discussions – Student Governors are full members of the Board and able to contribute in all areas.

When is it?

The meetings happen on Wednesdays during the day. They tend to last 2.5-3 hours and bring together a group of individuals who help to develop the university’s strategy and challenge to continuously improve what we do and make this a great place to be a student. If they clash with a lecture, you would provide us with your thoughts in advance to be discussed in the meeting.

What Support would I get?

  • You will have a personalised induction to introduce you to the role.
  • You would be able to meet with members of the Board to help with queries.
  • You would also get access to national training and development to help you understand what being a student governor is all about and build your confidence.

"I have had the pleasure of representing students on the Board of Governors over the last year. During this time, I have been able to gain deep insight into how Hartpury is run and have contributed to the decision making with a student perspective. The role has given me a lot more confidence to speak out and share my views in public as well as gaining a valuable new network of peers."

"I had the honour to represent Hartpury as Student Governor for HE. As Student governor, you sit on both the Hartpury Board and on the Quest Committee - Quest stands for Quality, Enhancement and Standards Committee. Your role is to provide a student perspective of the goings-on at Hartpury and having input on how students may perceive decisions. In the role, you will develop many skills including public speaking and understanding corporate language. The main reason I would advise anyone to apply for this role is for the great networking opportunities it provides for any student."

"My time as HE Student governor over the last two academic years has been incredibly enjoyable. Getting to know my fellow governors and diving deep into Hartpury University's inner workings has been eye-opening. Being part of 'the room where it happens' has given me incredible insights, making sure my opinions are well-rounded. Working alongside the board, I've championed student voices, making sure everyone's heard, and bridging the gap between their needs and institutional perspectives. This experience has not only broadened my connections but also empowered me to better support students. Overall, serving as HE Student governor has been a profoundly rewarding journey of learning, connection, and advocacy. I am so grateful for the opportunity."
